CBI files FIR against Karti Chidambaram, PC's son says he did no wrong

The Economic Offences Wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram; M/s INX Media (P) Ltd., represented by its then directors Indrani Mukherjea and Pritam Mukherjea alias Peter Mukherjea; Chess Management Services (represented through its director Mr. Karti Chidambaram); Advantage Strategic Consultancy (P) Ltd., represented through its director Padma Vishwanathan and others; besides unknown Finance Ministry officials on the charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and corruption.

Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has hit out at the Congress after CBI raids at the homes and offices of Karti Chidambaram.

The raids were conducted on Chidambaram properties across four cities for allegedly receiving money from a media firm owned by Indrani and Peter Mukerjea to scuttle a tax probe.

"What do you expect the Congress to do? Their president and vice-president are facing trial in the National Herald case. The whole country will come to know that it is the most corrupt party in the history of the world," Swamy said.

Karti on Tuesday said he has not done anything wrong and alleged a political vendetta behind the CBI raids against him in connection with the INX Media case.

Special teams on Tuesday conducted simultaneous searches on the premises of the accused in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai in connection with alleged irregularities in foreign direct investments to the tune of ₹305 crore in INX Media and INX News.
