Governor rejects TN govt's list, forms committee to find new VC for Anna varsity

Vice Chancellors were appointed for University of Madras and Madurai Kamaraj University on Saturday by Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao.

However, all the three candidates proposed for the vice chancellorship of the Anna University were rejected by the Governor.

"The governor has ordered the constitution of a new search committee for recommending a panel of three names to him for appointing the next vice chancellor of Anna University following the decision to reject the panel submitted by the earlier committee," a Raj Bhavan release said.

"Former chief justice of India, R M Lodha has been nominated to the new search committee as the chancellor's nominee," it said.

P. Duraisamy, former head of the Econometrics Department at the University of Madras, is the varsity’s new V-C, while P.P. Chellathurai is the MKU V-C.

Higher Education Minister K.P. Anbalagan said, “The qualifications of the three candidates fulfilled the UGC norms, but the Governor expects someone with greater eminence to be the V-C of the largest technical university in the country.”
