TN schools to reopen on June, delay due to heat

The summer break for government and aided schools in Tamil Nadu has been extended by a week in view of the prevailing heat conditions in the state.



School education department has announced that schools will reopen only on June 7 instead of June 1. This followed requests from parents.



According to a school education department official, "Due to the unbearable summer heat, we have extended the reopening date from June 1 to June 7 after requests from parents."



The teachers association representatives met minister K A Sengottaiyan on Wednesday and requested him to postpone the reopening of schools in view of the heat condition in many districts.



After participating at a function in Ambattur here on Friday, the minister told reporters: "We have decided to postpone the reopening of government and aided schools to June 7 (Wednesday)."



Meanwhile, reports claimed that a matriculation school in Tiruchy has sent SMS alert to all parents of Class X and XII students to send their wards for classes from May 29.
