Edappadi Palaniswami's crucial meeting with PM in Delhi

Amid BJP's reported attempt to seek support of both AIADMK warring factions ahead of Presidential polls, Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will be meeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss several issues including political situation pertaining to the State.

Palaniswami's Delhi visit comes days after Union Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu met him at the state Secretariat in Chennai.

The opposition parties are holding meetings in a bid to field a common candidate for the President's post as the term of President Pranab Mukherjee is ending in July 2017.

Also, Palaniswami's visit comes days after his predecessor and leader of the ruling AIADMK's Puratchi Thalaivi Amma faction, O Panneerselvam, had called on Modi in the national capital last week.

The proposed merger talks between the factions led by the two leaders are yet to take off. Also, some senior AIADMK Amma leaders have reportedly placed important demands to the CM.

According to the tentative schedule, Palaniswami will meet Modi at 11.30 am. Officially, he is likely to take up various issues, including early assent for two NEET Bills and drought relief. This is his third visit to Delhi after taking over as chief minister less than three months ago.
