A fireman from Coimbatore allegedly murdered a 47-year-old schoolteacher by ramming a car into her Facebook friend's two-wheeler, on which she was riding pillion, at Anna Nagar in Chennai on Monday night.
The 28-year-old, Ilayaraja, working with the fire and rescue services department, was arrested by Anna Nagar police in Chennai after the death of Nivetha.
Nivedha, a school teacher, hailed from Coimbatore and was a divorcee. The incident took place when she had gone to Chennai to meet her daughter along with the accused Ilayaraja.
She had called up her Facebook friend Ganapathy to meet her at Anna Nagar. The trio met on Monday night. Ganapathy and Ilayaraja picked up a fight over each other's relationship with the woman. The woman pacified the duo. Later, she rode pillion on Ganapathy's two-wheeler.
Ilayaraja followed them in his car and rammed it into their vehicle. Nivetha fell down and suffered serious injuries. She was rushed to government Kilpauk hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Police secured the fireman and he has been booked under section 302 of IPC (punishment for murder).
