A K Viswanathan takes charge as Chennai CoP, reveals top priorities

Additional Director-General of Police A.K. Viswanathan on Monday took charge as Commissioner of Greater Chennai Police.



Speaking to reporters after assuming charge Viswanathan said he would take forward the good work done by his predecessors.



"My priority would be create safe environement for the city's public," he said adding that steps would be taken to ensure public approach them easily without any hurdle.



Prior to taking up his new role as City Police Chief, Viswanathan was Additional Commandant General, Home Guards.



Viswanathan has held various responsibilities, including Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) and also as City Police Commissioner, Coimbatore.



”We will maintain a good rapport with the public. Schemes initiated by the former Commissioners will continue to benefit the people,” he said.



Viswanathan, 53, is the 106th Commissioner of Chennai. He had also served in CBI on deputation. A native of Erode, Viswanathan is a third generation police officer in the family.
