Officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence of former union minister P. Chidambaram and his son Karti in Chennai today.

Sources said that a nine-member team from the investigation agency also conducted searches at more than ten places in the State.

According to reports, the raid may be followed in his native place Karaikudi also.

Recently, Enforcement Directorate (ED) had issued a show-cause notice to Karti Chidambaram and a company linked to him for alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) laws to the tune more than Rs 40 crore.

Meanwhile in a statement, Chidambaram said "the government's aim is to silence my voice and stop me from writing, as it has tried to do in the cases of leaders of Opposition parties, journalists, columnists, NGOs and civil society organizations. All i will say is, I shall continue to speak and write."
