Modi meets Karunanidhi, Stalin says no politics

Prime minister Narendra Modi visited DMK president and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi in Chennai on Monday and invited the latter to his residence to take rest.

With the meeting giving raise to speculations, DMK working president M K Stalin dismissed any politics in Modi's meeting with his father Karunanidhi.

Stalin told reporters that no politics was discussed between them nor was there any political intention behind Modi's courtesy call on his father.

Modi was in Chennai to attend a few functions, including Tamil daily Dina Thanthi's celebration of 75 years. His visit to Karunanidhi's Gopalapuram home was announced at the last minute.

The Prime Minister was at Karunanidhi's residence for about 20 minutes, talked to the DMK chief holding his hands and also met his wives Dayalu Ammal and Rajathi Ammal.

Officially, the DMK maintained it was a courtesy meeting, but unofficially sources pointed out that it was fraught with messages that could have repercussions in the future.
