I-T raids on Sasikala clan to end today

Income tax raids on the family and aides of sidelined AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, which started Thursday last, are expected to end today.

At least 100 bank accounts of shell companies allegedly managed by Jaya TV MD Vivek Jayaraman, a nephew of convicted AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, have been frozen, reports said, quoting I-T sources.

Sasikala, jailed for corruption, was a confidante of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and lived with her for decades.

While the official was mum on the amount of cash, jewellery and property documents allegedly seized, unconfirmed reports said that gold weighing around eight kg and several property documents had been seized by IT officials.

According to reports, Sasikala was on Saturday and Sunday glued to Tamil TV news channels, newspapers and periodicals for information on the development.

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S Ramadoss on Sunday said that any asset belonging to Sasikala and her family anywhere in the world, if found to have been acquired through corrupt means, must be seized, and the money returned to the people of the State.
