Kamal returning donations sent for his party

Kamal Haasan has written that he has decided to return the money he has collected from his fans and the public for the cause of launching a political party.

He feels it is illegal to receive funds without starting a party.

Weeks after he announced that his fan clubs had helped raise 30 crores to assist the needy, Kamal Haasan has said he is returning the donations sent to him for his yet-to-be launched party.

The 63-year-old actor in his weekly column for a Tamil news magazine Ananda Vikatan said that "it'll be illegal to keep the money without any infrastructure". He has not fixed a date or name for his new political venture.

The Madras high court on Thursday directed the Greater Chennai city police commissioner to reply within a week, on action to be taken against actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan for his comments against Hindus.

Meanwhile, Kamal on Thursday donated Rs 20 lakh for setting up a Tamil chair in the Harvard University.

Actor and professor K Gnanasambandan received the donation from Kamal at an event here attended by prominent personalities and writers belonging to the Tamil diaspora.
