Close on the heels of defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman's remarks distancing the Indian Coast Guard from a firing incident in which two fishermen were injured ruffled feathers of political leaders and fishermen organisations, a senior Tamil Nadu minister has toed her line.
State forest minister, Dindigul C Srinivasan endorsed the view of Nirmala Sitharaman, who on Saturday said that Indian Coast had not fired at Indian fishermen and Coast Guard does not use the kind of bullets fishermen claim that they were shot with.
Srinivasan during a government function at Chinnalapatti in Dindigul district on Sunday said that he has no second opinion against what Nirmala Sitharaman has said.
Nirmala Sitharaman's comment denying the alleged attack on fishermen by the coast guard in Rameswaram has caused a furore among the community.
Earlier this week, an incident was reported from Rameswaram where a fisherman alleged that the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) had open fired at them in the sea, resulting in injury of two.
An FIR against the ICG has been filed by the marine police of the Coastal Security Group. Fishermen K Pichai Arokiyadass and S Johnson, had produced a 0.22 cm diameter aluminium bullet as a proof of the alleged firin
