Woman techie, her mom and sister burnt by lover

A 22-year-old woman - a techie - died on Tuesday morning after a spurned lover set her ablaze in her home at Adambakkam in Chennai on Monday night. Her mother and sister sustained burn injuries when they tried to save her.

S Induja was set on fire at the doorstep of her home in the city's Adambakkam area. The man, a science graduate, has been arrested.

Induja's mother Renuka and younger sister Nivedita, who tried to save her, are in hospital. Her mother suffered 49 per cent burns and her sister is in the ICU.

Aakash has been stalking her for over a month, claiming that he was in love with her. He went to her house at Saraswathi Nagar in Adambakkam on Monday night after she didn't respond to his calls.

According to reports, Induja and her family were initially reluctant to open the door, but Aakash persisted and gained entry, saying he only wanted to speak to her for a few minutes.

On hearing screams, neighbours rushed to the house and took all the three women to the Chromepet Government Hospital. Indhuja was declared dead on arrival and Renuka and Nivedha were later taken to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on. Induja's uncle told reporters that the jilted lover turned up at her house in Adambakkam AGS Colony, Saraswathi Nagar, at around 9pm Monday night, and requested to talk to her.

When a reluctant Induja opened the door, the jilted lover is said to have thrown petrol on her, dousing her mother and sister in the process.
