Maitreyan says 'hearts not yet synced' between EPS-OPS teams

Signs of discontent have emerged in the ruling faction of the AIADMK just three months after the merger of the Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam camps.

“Three months since the merger and the fourth month is on. The months pass by but what about hearts?” asked Rajya Sabha MP V Maitreyan in a post on Facebook.

Queried about his remarks, Maitreyan, who was in the OPS faction, said he had already expressed his views and did not wish to say anything more.

Senior party leaders K P Munuswamy and Manoj Pandian refused to comment on Maitreyan's remarks.

However, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, a confidant of chief minister Palaniswami, rejected all talk of misunderstanding within the AIADMK and counselled Maitreyan to air his grievances, if any, within the party forum rather than coming out in the open.

“What I have mentioned in Facebook is true. It is not just the cadres who are divided, there is no unity among the leaders as well. Even after the merger, OPS supporters are being sidelined and disrespected by office-bearers owing allegiance to EPS. The 11-member steering committee which was promised during the merger is yet to be formed and the district-level committees are also not assigned yet,” Maitreyan said.

Jayakumar asserted there was no difference of opinion. "There is consensus and unity to take forward the party founded by the late MGR (MG Ramachandran) and nurtured by Amma (late J Jayalalithaa)," he said.
