EC, parties gear up for RK Nagar by-poll; paramilitary forces to reach Chennai

The byelection to the high profile RK Nagar Assembly constituency in the city, which fell vacant following the death of former Chief Minister and AIADMK Supremeo J Jayallithaa, would be held on December 21.



According to Election Commission sources, paramilitary forces will be deployed and they will reach Chennai in a few days.



"We will win the bypoll with huge margin and prove that we are truly the successors of late Chief Minister and party leader J.Jayalalithaa," former MP and AIADMK spokesperson KC Palaniswamy said.



DMK working president and leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly, M K Stalin, has called for a meeting of top office-bearers of the party, to take a decision on the DMK's candidate for the RK Nagar by-election.



With Panneerselvam and Palaniswami factions coming together and the Election Commission allotting the "two leaves" symbol and the party name to Panneerselvam/Madhusudhanan, AIADMK leaders said Madhusudhanan would be the candidate.



Electronic voting machines (EVM) with Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) will be used. The model code of conduct has come into effect from Friday.
