Kamal cancels birthday celebrations

Known for celebrating his birthday with fans, Kamal Haasan, whose big day is today, has cancelled celebrations today.

The actor-filmmaker will not celebrate his birthday and instead meet people affected by the current torrential rains, his spokesperson said on Monday.

The national award winning actor will also visit a rain-affected area at Pallikaranai in Chennai, it is learnt.

Kamal Haasan, who has long been expected to join politics, will launch a mobile application to connect with his fans on his birthday today.

The actor held back on the details of when he would launch his own party but said the application would be the first step in his political journey.

"To those who love me and dislike the idea of my cancelling my birthday celebrations," he tweeted in English and Tamil, late on Monday night.

"Tomorrow is just another day if you just celebrate and fail to seize it. If we can make it better in pursuit of a cause then we become the change we seek," the actor, who had upgraded his fan club into a welfare association decades earlier to help people, said.
