TN PG medical counselling from today; NEET candidates face trouble

Counselling for postgraduate medical courses will begin on Monday. As many as 562 seats in PG degree programmes and 200 diploma programmes will be filled, said Directorate of Medical Education officials.

It will commence today at Multi Super Speciality Hospital at Omandurar Estate in Chennai.

The counselling will go on till May 11, and the candidates rank list was released on Sunday on the official website. An attached link with other instructions in PDF format was also released.

Selection secretary G. Selvarajan said the merit list and counselling for seats in deemed universities and self-financing institutions would be done after the process is completed for government seats.

The Madras High Court on Saturday ruled that the admissions must be done only as per guidelines of the Medical Council of India, which does not permit 50 per cent quota for government doctors.

Meanwhile, with the Centre refusing to exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET, around 88,000 students on Sunday attended the national entrance test for medical admissions in eight cities of the state.

But many of them were upset with the strict rules and regulations that were in place at the exam centres.
