Rajini, Kamal come together for Stalin; Vaiko's special vow

Leaders cutting across party lines and top stars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan on Thursday greeted DMK working president M K Stalin on his 65th birthday.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko said, "Stalin should live long and govern the State for a long time." He also handed him his new book. Vaiko also vowed to safeguard and protect Stalin.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Thirunavukkarasar, senior Congress leader Kumari Ananthan, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol Thirumavalavan, Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani and others have conveyed their wishes to Stalin, who is the leader of opposition in the state Assembly.

In a letter to party cadres, Stalin said that libraries should be created for the benefit of the people in all Town Panchayats and named after Periyar, Anna and Kalaignar. "I will donate all the books that I receive as gifts to these libraries," he said.

Stalin ‘served’ Chennai as its mayor from 1996-2002. And after Jayalalithaa’s inglorious defeat in 2006, he became the Minister for Rural Development and Local Administration.

However, by 2009, his influence was such that he was often called Tamil Nadu’s first ‘deputy chief minister’.
