H Raja's FB post triggers tremors in TN politics

BJP national secretary H Raja on Tuesday triggered a fresh controversy by posting in Facebook that the statue of rationalist leader Periyar (EV Ramasamy) in Tamil Nadu would be razed just like Communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin's statue was removed in Tripura. He however deleted the post later.

Clarifying the BJP's stand, state party president Tamilisai Soundararajan said the statement of Raja about removing Periyar statue was his personal opinion.

Raja tweeted, “Who is Lenin and what is the connection between Lenin and India? What connection has India with communists? Lenin's statue has been removed in Tripura. Today it is Lenin's statue in Tripura, tomorrow it will be the statue of caste fanatic EVR Ramasamy.”

DMK working president M K Stalin demanded the arrest of Raja under Goondas Act. “Nobody has the right to touch Periyar’s statue. He has been doing this for long time to incite violence. He should be arrested under Goondas Act and put behind bars,” Stalin said.

“Forget about Raja, not even his forefathers would be able to touch Periyar statue,” said Dalit party VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, adding that what Raja shows is his sheer arrogance.

The MDMK, CPM and CPI have also demanded action against Raja. He has reportedly said someone else had inadvertently posted it on his page.
