A college student was stabbed to death at KK Nagar in Chennai on Friday. M Aswini, a BCom student, was stabbed by a 26-year-old man named Alagesan, who slit her throat with a serrated knife outside the Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research campus in KK Nagar.
Aswini came out of the college and was walking on Loganathan Street when the assailant, Alagesan, a sanitary worker, pulled out knife and slit her throat. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
Her body was later shifted to government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The assailant was caught by the public, who toched him and and handed him over to the police.
It is said that Alagesan was upset that Aswini snapped her ties with him. According to reports, Aswini had filed a complaint against Alagesan for harassment.
Visuals show Alagesan tied up and beaten up by bystanders before being handed over to the police. Alagesan sustained injuries.
The broad daylight murder sent shockwaves in the busy locality, renewing the demand for deployment of police personnel in front of schools and colleges.
