Rains that have been lashing Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu have stopped from this morning, bringing the sun back after three days. But woes are continuing.
Normal life continues to be affected in the State due to non stop rain that poured since Sunday night due to a upper air cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal.
Two girl children were electrocuted to death in Chennai city, which was battered by non-stop rains since last night under the influence of active Northeast monsoon, even as the death toll in rain-related incidents in the state rose to nine.
Police said the young girl children, Bhuvana and Yuvasri, were
playing in front of their house at Kodungaiyur area in North Chennai,
when the came into contact with a snapped live wire from an EB
junction box.
Electricity Minister P Thangamani said the children had stepped on wire submerged under water and it led to electrocution.
The minister said eight Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation employees were suspended for failing to take precautionary measures.
Meanwhile today, the Madras high court has sought report from the Tamil Nadu government on the death of the two girl children.
