I-T raids on Sasikala clan continue, incriminating documents found

Income tax officials continued searches at several premises linked to jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala's family members and her supporters. The operation started on Thursday.




Cars moving across Chennai with "Srini Weds Mahi" flyers stuck onto their windscreens, it emerged hours into the raids, were used by Income Tax officials on the trail of the powerful family of Sasikala - former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's close aide who took control of the ruling party after her death in December.




There were tense moments in Mannargudi town when a group of supporters of Dhivakaran were detained after they tried to block the vehicle of the I-T officials involved in the search operations.




Quoting sources, reports said that "sizeable volume of cash and documents" have been seized at the searched premises.




"The volume and value of cash and documents seized would be known only after they are totalled after completing the entire operation," they added.




On Thursday morning, I-T officials began simultaneous searches on 187 premises in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Puducherry. The officials had completed searches in 47 places, mainly in Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts, by Friday morning.
