Controversial director Velu Prabhakaran married actress Shirley Das of his previous film Kadhal Kadhai by exchanging rings.
He did this at the press show of his latest film Oru Iyakkunarin Kadhal Diary. While the director is said to be in his 60s, the actress is said to be in her 30s.
On why he married her, he said, "Everyone needs a companion, no matter what the age is. Shirley Das is a gift to me, she understands me well."
The couple exchanged rings in the presence of media members at the Le Magic Lantern theatre in Chennai.
The register marriage will follow, Prabhakaran told reporters. Prabhakaran and Shirley have known each other for over a decade.
His Oru Iyakkunarin Kadhal Diary released in the theatres on Friday amid a controversy over its adult content.
