Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and rebel AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam on Sunday announced dissolving a seven-member panel formed in April to hold merger talks with the rival AIADMK (Amma) faction headed by Chief Minister K Palaniswami.
The announcement was made at a meeting of party functionaries in Chennai after senior party leaders pressed Panneerselvam for a decision.
The OPS camp, which presently has 12 MPs and 11 legislators, also said that the EPS faction has not honoured their demands of expelling party chief VK Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dinakaran.
A cheer went up from the cadre after he made the announcement, at a public meeting on Sunday night on the outskirts of Chennai.
Meanwhile, former minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, who had backed Panneerselvam following his revolt against Sasikala in February this year, met the party’s Amma faction leader T T V Dinakaran, calling him a strong leader who could strengthen the party.
He said he was one of those who was ‘fooled’ by the ‘theatrics’ of the former Chief Minister. "OPS is a bigger actor than Sivaji Ganesan," he said.
