Leave declared for schools, colleges, offices in Chennai

The government has declared holiday for schools, colleges and private establishments in Chennai today, due to heavy rains.




The State government has appointed IAS officers in charge of monitoring rescue and rehabilitation efforts for each of the 15 zones in the Greater Chennai Corporation.




Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami assigned Ministers and officials zones of the Greater Chennai Corporation and Kancheepuram districts to coordinate relief operations.




Former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's house at Gopalapuram was flooded. "Teams were sent immediately and water was removed," Revenue Minister R B Udhayakumar said.




A low pressure area has formed over Sri Lanka & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, according to Met Department, which has predicted more rains today.




Area cyclone warning centre director S Balachandran said, "A low pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka. This will bring heavy rainfall in the some of the southern and delta districts on Friday."
