Jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala has been granted parole and is likely to visit Chennai on Friday to meet her husband who underwent surgery on Thursday, report said.
Disputed AIADMK Deputy General TTV Dhinakaran decided to apply for 15 days parole to his aunt Sasikala after consulting with her brother Dhivakaran last week.
The reason given was that Sasikala's husband M Natarajan was in a critical condition. The given reason does allow jail authorities to grant parole to Sasikala as she was not convicted for hard crimes like murder.
Sasikala has been in jail Bengaluru since February after the Supreme Court upheld her conviction by a special court in a disproportionate assets case.
Along with Sasikala, her relatives Ilavarasi and VN Sudhakaran are also serving four-year jail terms.
Meanwhile, AIADMK Karnataka State secretary and T.T.V Dinakaran loyalist V. Pugazhendi said that the Prison Manual provided for granting of parole once someone who is undergoing simple imprisonment completes six months.
From Sasikala's end, the location for her stay was stated to be the house of Ilavarasi's daughter house and the medical report verification was also done, it is learnt.
