IPS officer arrested for copying in IAS exam may be dismissed

An IPS probationary officer, arrested for allegedly cheating in the UPSC examination in Chennai, is facing possible dismissal if he fails to give a proper explanation for his conduct.



With the help of their counterparts in Telangana, the Tamil Nadu police have arrested Joicy Joy, wife of assistant superintendent of police Safeer Karim, in Hyderabad, for helping her husband to cheat in the Union Public Service Commission (Main) Examination.



Police said assistance superintendent of police Shabir Karim, who was posted in Tirunelveli district, allegedly writing his exams with the help of a "small" Bluetooth attached in his ears.



His wife was passing answers to Karim through her mobile phone from Hyderabad. A native of Kerala, Karim, who was still under probationary period, evinced interest to become IAS officer.



Karim allegedly took a cellphone, a bluetooth-enabled miniature camera in a shirt button and wireless earpieces into the examination hall in Presidency girls higher secondary school.



His wife is a visiting faculty member at an IAS training centre at Ashok Nagar Crossroads in Hyderabad, it is learnt.
