Modi in Chennai today, tight security in place

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Chennai today, to attend a couple of events. It will be an one-day trip and he will return to the capital on the same day.



Modi is expected to arrive here at around 10 a.m. and would return back to New Delhi the same day.



Security has been beefed up in connection with Modi's visit. Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan and others on Sunday inspected the arrangements at the airport.



He is scheduled to address BJP party workers at gate six of the airport before proceeding to INS Adyar by helicopter where chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Paneerselvam will receive him.



State BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan said grand welcome would be accorded to the PM.



It is said that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam will brief Prime Minister about the damages caused by rains due to northeast monsoon across the State and would seek relief amount.



Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place at airport, near INS Adyar, the route from INS Adyar to Madras University campus and at Raja Annamalaipuram. More than 10,000 police personnel will be deployed to manage traffic.
