Will Mersal hit screens for Deepavali as planned?

It seems Mersal is yet to be cleared by the Censor board, as the film should get a NOC from Animal Welfare Board of India for allegedly using animals and birds.

However, makers of the movie have said the film would sure hit the screens for Deepavali and they are making all arrangements.

The Madras High Court on Friday dismissed an appeal against a single judge order allowing release of Mersal, starring Vijay, on October 18.

The single judge had earlier restrained the producers of the movie from using the word Mersal in its title on a civil suit filed by another producer, who claimed that he had registered a title Mersal Ayiten.

Meanwhile, a single judge of the Madras High Court on Thursday referred to a Division Bench a writ petition u that has urged the court to restrain 40 cinema theatres, infamous for charging exorbitant ticket charges, spread across the State from screening the much-awaited Deepavali release of Vijay-starrer Mersal in their cinema halls.

Justice K Ravichandra Baabu directed the registry to place the petition before the Chief Justice and obtain orders to refer it to a division bench as "public interest is involved."
