Ahead of the theatrical release of Mersal, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami at his official residence in Chennai on Sunday.

However, minister Kadambur Raju said Mersal issues were not discussed. He said Vijay thanked the CM for lowering the local body entertainment tax to 8% from the earlier 10%.

In Mersal, Vijay will be seen playing three roles - that of a panchayat head, a doctor and a magician. The film, which also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen, marks the second collaboration of Atlee and Vijay

Many speculated that the visit has a lot to do with Mersal being in trouble, as the film is facing many issues of late.

The recent trouble for the film come from the quarters of an animal welfare group, which has raised questions about animals being used to make the film.

Produced by Sri Thenandal Studios, the film has music by AR Rahman and also stars SJ Suryah in a key role. Mersal is scheduled to hit theatres for Deepavali on October 18.
