Over 10 lakh students write SSLC public exams

10,38,022 lakh students in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are writing class 10 public examinations from Wednesday. In Chennai alone, 51,664 students from 571 schools are appearing for the exams.

Steps were taken to prevent malpractices. Flying squads were formed to conduct surprise visit to centres to check malpractices, if any.

Candidates of hearing impairment and dyslexia had been given one more additional hour for the examinations. Moreover, assistant examiners would help them to write the examinations.

Elaborate arrangements were made to provide basic facilities including drinking water at the examination halls.

As far as the city of Chennai is concerned, exams are being conducted in 209 centres. While 25,280 are boys and 26,384 are girls.

229 prisoners (219 men and 10 women) are also appearing for the exams in centres at Chennai, Palayamkottai, Tiruchy, Coimbatore and Vellore jails.
