Top guns of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the Centre gave patient listening to the woes of Tamil Nadu farmers and fishermen on Tuesday.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday assured a delegation of fishermen from Tamil Nadu that India will continue to work for the release of all Indian boats and fishermen in Sri Lankan custody.
Reports said Sushma Swaraj conveyed to the fishermen that the government's efforts in the last two years had earlier led to the release of all the boats and fishermen in Sri Lankan custody.
"She assured that the government would remain closely engaged with the Sri Lankan government to secure the release of all Indian boats and fishermen currently in Sri Lankan custody," reports said, quoting sources.
Meanwhile, representatives of Tamil Nadu farmers protesting at Jantar Mantar met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday and put forth their demands.
The farmers said they would continue to their dharna till they meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union ministers for Agriculture and Water Resources.
