Mylapore gets ready for Panguni festival

Arrangements are on in full swing for the annual Panguni Peruvizha, the most important festival of the renowned Sri Kapaleeswarar temple at Mylapore in Chennai.

The rituals will commence with the traditional flag hoisting on April 2. It will be followed by Adhigara Nandhi Kaatchi on April 4 and Vellvidai Peruvizha on April 6.

On April 8, the car festival will take place, followed by the most popular Arubathu Moovar Vizha the next day and Iraivan Iravalar Kola Vizha on April 10.

Curtains will come down on the festivities on April 11 with the celestial wedding (Thirukalyanam) of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvathi.

The four ‘mada’ lanes around the Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore are ablaze with festive colours.

According to temple officials, CCTV cameras have been installed inside and outside the temple complex. A makeshift police control room is also being set up with a huge contingent of policemen on hand to patrol the crowd. Adequate drinking water provisions and other facilities will been made,” they said.
