The Election Commission will decide on March 22 which faction of the AIADMK will get its poll symbol 'Two Leaves'.
The full bench of the Election Commission will hear the arguments of the factions headed by VK Sasikala and O Panneerselvam on March 22 at 10.30 am and pass orders ahead of the high-voltage bypoll in RK Nagar Assembly constituency.
While Dinakaran is the AIADMK candidate, E Madhusudhanan is the candidate for the OPS faction
In the last three days, both factions have taken turns in meeting either chief election commissioner Nasim Zaidi or other election officials in their fight for the party's two-leaves symbol ahead of the April 12 R K Nagar byelection.
The Commission has sought supporting documents from the Panneerselvam camp before March 20. The Sasikala camp was asked to file its response also by March 20. But it sought time till March 22, which the EC rejected.
Apart from deciding on the symbol, one other important decision is expected. The Commission had been approached with regard to the appointment of Sasikala as interim general secretary, as the OPS faction argued that the AIADMK’s constitution was not followed in her appointment and that it be declared void. The panel could also give its ruling on the matter.
