Kaatru Veliyidai teaser is breezy, bold

The makers of Mani Ratnam's upcoming Tamil romantic drama Kaatru Veliyidai have released the film's theatrical trailer on Wednesday.

AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam during a live Facebook session on Thursday. The director-composer duo, who have worked in the film industry for about 25 years together, got nostalgic before they showed us a sneak peek of what they have in store for the moviegoers with the Karthi, Aditi Rao Hydari film.

“You are an inspiration,” Rahman told Ratnam.”Your work is the inspiration.”

The very first scene between Aditi Rao Hydari and Karthi is a major throwback to O Kadhal Kanmani, including other small instances as well, except this one seems intense and less chirpy. So, boy and girl meet in a dreamy ballroom and chance upon a future.

Soon there are sequences set against snowclad mountains and Karthi, who plays an Air Force officer, makes the most of it by flying the love of his life around.

Principal photography of the film commenced on 8 July 2016 in Ooty. The film was shot in Hyderabad, Leh, Ladakh, Chennai and Belgrade, and was completed in January 2017.

Slated for release on April 7, Kaatru Veliyidai stars Karthi as a fighter pilot and Aditi Rao Hydari a doctor.
