RK Nagar bypoll on April 12

The Election Commission of India today said the by-election to Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly constituency in Chennai will be held on April 12.

The seat fell vacant due to the death of former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalaltihaa on December 5.

The Election Commission of India also announced that the counting will take place on April 15 and the candidates can file their nominations by March 23.

The model code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect.
Counting of votes will be held on April 15.

As per the schedule put out by the poll panel, the poll notification will be made on March 16. The last date of nomination is March 23. The nominations would be scrutinised on March 24, and March 27 is the last date of withdrawal of candidatures.
