The newly-appointed returning officer for RK Nagar by-election, Paveen Nair, has said 1,638 officials will be on duty at polling booths on April 12.
He said, "already, three flying squads and 22 standing committees are at work in the constituency. We are taking all steps to ensure free and fair elections."
A system where electors can see a printout of the party symbol they voted for -- Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAD) -- will be introduced in all the 256 polling booths for the April 12 RK Nagar byelection in Chennai.
Speaking to reporters at the Tondiarpet corporation office on Monday, returning officer Praveen Nair said counting would take place at Queen Mary's College from 8 am on April 15.
He said there are 256 polling booths at RK Nagar, out of which 29 have been identified as sensitive so far. "People can contact round-the-clock toll free helpline 19004257012 in case of complaints," he said.
All polling booths will be monitored using a combination of CCTVs, webcam and videographing facilities.
