Jaya's medical reports made public, TN says she was provided best treatment

Seeking to put an end to the controversy and intrigue surrounding the death of the late J Jayalalithaa, the Tamil Nadu government has released a set of documents pertaining to the treatment provided to the late AIADMK leader.

State health secretary J Radhakrishnan issued a statement along with a treatment summary from the Apollo Hospitals and reports from the teams of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences to clear doubts about the 75-day treatment given to Jayalalithaa at the Apollo Hospitals since September 22.

Radhakrishnan listed the sequence of events from the night of September 22 when Apollo Hospitals received a call from Poes Garden and despatched an ambulance.

He added that medical practitioners were not bound to reveal details related to patients, but given the need to put at rest speculation relating to the circumstances surrounding the hospitalisation, treatment and demise of the former Chief Minister, the “government has decided to make public the discharge summary received from Apollo and the reports received from AIIMS.”

“The late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa passed away at 11.30 PM on December 5, 2016,” the report said. Meanwhile, Radhakrishnan told reporters in New Delhi after receiving the report by AIIMS doctors that there “is no basis to the speculation which has been circulated in the media” on Jayalalithaa’s treatment.

Addressing allegations that Jayalalithaa was given the wrong medication, Radhakrishnan said except for corticosteroids, administered for atopic dermatitis, the former Tamil Nadu chief minister was only taking oral hypoglycemic and anti-hypersensitive drugs to control pre- existing diabetes millions and hyper tension.

"There were pre-existing comorbid conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthmatic bronchitis and hypothyroidism. But clearly the treatment report of Apollo Hospitals as well as that of AIIMS do not mention any evidence of trauma or any other event as alleged by certain political leaders," said Dr Radhakrishnan.
