Rotary club of Chennai Carnatic

The Rotary club of Chennai Carnatic - District 3232 hosted the second edition of their flagship event the Chennai Lecture Series on Saturday the 13th October 2017, celebrating the Club's Charter Anniversary. The Chennai Lecture Series was conducted in association with the Department of Humanities and Social sciences, IIT Madras, featuring the eminent speaker Former Chief Election Commissioner, Mr.T.S.Krishnamurthy. Mr.T.S.Krishnamurthy addressed the audience on electoral democracy with specific references about the uniqueness and independence of the election commission in India in comparison with other major countries. He emphasised on the accuracy of voting machines and insisted on best practices like setting up of a National Election Fund to uphold free and fair elections. He felt the need for a regulatory body for political parties and stressed on radical electoral reforms like warranting 50% vote share to decide on the winning candidate of a constituency.



Rtn.Shriram Ananthanarayanan, the chairman of the event observed that the lecture series aims at benefitting the accomplished citizens and thought leaders of the city. The Q & A session invited interesting questions from the audience and thought provoking replies.



Co Chair Rtn.Praveen Krishnamurthy & Event Director Rtn.Sareetha Sugunan spoke about the importance of Chennai Lecture Series and it's way forward by bringing in eminent speakers to the midst of intellectuals for a deep & evocative conversation of current issues.
