Three Union Ministers visited Chennai during the weekend- Saturday and Sunday. They are defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and minister of state for health and family welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey.
Raju on Sunday said the Chennai airport needs a modern parallel runway to cater to the growing passenger traffic and, the Centre and state government would have to partner for this cause.
Choubey on Sunday inspected treatment being given to dengue patients at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in the city.
He also interacted with doctors and took stock of the situation. Later, he called on chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the latter's residence.
It was a packed day for Nirmala Sitharaman in Chennai on Saturday, during her maiden visit to her home state Tamil Nadu as the country's defence minister. In the morning, she addressed a huge gathering after inaugurating the Mudra loan campaign.
She urged the state government to implement the Centre's Mudra Yojana scheme in the districts. Later, she visited defence facilities in Avadi and lauded scientists.
