Pa Vijay turns director

Lyricist Pa Vijay, who became an actor years ago and gave a hit film Strawberry recently, is now turning a director.

He will wield the megaphone for a film titled Arudra. Besides directing, he will also play the lead role in the flick. Calcutta-based Meghali is the heroine of the movie.

According to sources, Arudra will be a thriller with comedy and commercial elements and plans are on to complete the movie and release it at the earliest.

As lyricist, Vijay won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics in India for his song Ovvoru Pookalume in Cheran's Autograph.

Vijay is a native of Kumbakonam but grew up in Coimbatore. He met K. Bhagyaraj through his brother, who was a family friend and worked with him in films and his magazine, Bhagya. Vijay made his debut at lyricist in Gnanapazham in 1996 and went on to write many popular songs.

Vijay was originally supposed to make his acting debut with Thaai Kaaviyam however the film was shelved after the launch. He then made his acting debut with Gnabagangal (2009) for which he also wrote the script.
