Kamal Haasan reveals his party's stand on prohibition, NEET & more

Kamal Haasan's party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) does not believe in implementation of total prohibition as it would bring in more harm.

Kamal on Thursday argued against prohibition, saying a dry regime would lead to the creation of a 'mafia'.

Promise of implementing prohibition was being made to garner women's votes, he said about an issue discussed by all political parties in the state.

“The question is whether the liquor shops should be spread out like this. We have to go in search of a post office but there is no need to search for a TASMAC (Tamil Nadu government liquor outlet). We have to change this situation,” he said.

He said it is not possible to make an entire society to dislike liquor, and added that total prohibition would result in the creation of a mafia which has been seen in the history of the world.

He said his party is against NEET, the common entrance exam for medical admissions.

"The stand of MNM is not to support NEET. Tamil Nadu has made achievements in healthcare through doctors who graduated from the old admission system. Don't drag behind Tamil Nadu, which is standing forward in education, with exams like NEET," he said.
