Don't distribute Nilavembu to people: Kamal Haasan

Kamal Haasan on Wednesday urged the members of his fans organisation not to distribute a herbal concoction, nilavembu kudineer, recommended for fevers under the ancient system of medicine, to people.

In Twitter, he urged his fans not to distribute the Siddha medicine until there is proper research into it.

In another tweet, Kamal pointed out that Siddha medical practitioners should have carried out research and that it was natural for medicines to have side effects.

He tweeted stating, "It's not that the research should be done by allopathics. The traditionalists should also have done it. It is traditional for medicines to have side effects."

The ‘Siddha’ drug, which is made of nine herbs, is being distributed freely to all eateries by the state government. The Ayush ministry is also promoting its use, observing that nilavembu is “antipyretic (used to prevent or reduce fever), analgesic (pain-relieving) and anti-dengue activity proved.”

Meanwhile, asserting that dengue would be brought under control in 15 days, Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said 'Nilavembu' was proven to increase immunity.
