Throwing a fresh bombshell at the opposite camp, former minister Semmalai has said the faction led by former chief minister O Panneerselvam has the support of 15 ministers and 35 MLAs.
The leaders of the rebel AIADMK group led by Panneerselvam, are gearing up for a show of strength in Salem, the home turf of chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, where the party cadre’s meet is scheduled for May 1.
Semmalai is supervising the arrangements for the meet, the second in a series of events to elicit the views of the partymen over the future course of action. “We expect a turnout of up to 5,000 cadre at the meet,” he said.
Recently, D Jayakumar, Finance Minister and a member of the panel constituted by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-Amma (AIADMK-Amma) for merger talks with AIADMK-Puratchi Thalaivi Amma (AIADMK-PTA), wanted the latter to clarify whether the observations of Semmalai against the merger were those of the AIADMK-PTA or those of the legislator himself.
“Ideally, issues which are pertinent to Salem district should not get reflected in the matter,” he told reporters.
Meanwhile, Former minister K P Munusamy and Rajya Sabha Member Dr V Maitreyan spoke to reporters in Krishnagiri and Kancheepuram respectively, saying that a CBI probe into the circumstances that led to former CM Jayalalithaa’s death and a complete isolation of Sasikala’s family from the party still remained the main conditions.
