BJP up in arms against Vijay's dialogues on GST, Digital India in Mersal

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit on Thursday took objection to “incorrect references” on the Goods and Services Act (GST) in Vijay starrer Mersal and sought their removal.

Tamilisai Soundararajan, the BJP leader, accused actor Vijay of spreading false information because he wants to enter politics.

“I haven’t seen the movie, but those who saw the movie say there were factual errors in what was said,” she said, adding: "The scenes on GST and Digital India have been written in such a way so as to create a wrong impression on the minds of people.”

Certain scenes project GST and digital India in a bad light and we want these scenes removed. Vijay has political ambitions and that is the reason why these scenes are there in the movie, she added.

RSS member and BJP’s TN Youth Wing leader SG Suryah posted several memes on Twitter countering the claims made by the movie.

He posted: "Singapore Population - 56 Lakhs. People paying Income Tax 40%. Indian Population - 125 Crores. Income Tax paid by 4% Population.#MersalFake."
