No water: 19 farmers die in 2 days

In just two days, a whopping number of 19 farmers lost their lives as there was no water for crops. This has sent shock waves among the farming community.

These farmers either committed suicide or died due to cardiac arrest. On Sunday alone, 10 farmers breathed their last and the victims' list include Kaliaperumal of Orkudi village, Saroja of Kadambara Vazhkai, Kalimuthu of Periya Kaiyagam and Rajkumar of Mayiladuthurai.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders are upping their pressure on the government in this issue.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer and leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly, M K Stalin said that his party has been demanding all-party meeting and Assembly session to discuss the plight of farmers, since many of them are committing suicide.

"We had requested the then chief minister J Jayalalithaa. I had personally met the present CM Panneerselvam and placed a request in this regard. But there has been no response so far," he added.

Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan has said she will talk about the problems faced by farmers in Tamil Nadu at the national executive council meeting of the BJP in New Delhi later this week.
