Nadigar Sangam requests media not to cover its fast protest

Nadigar Sangam president Nasser has requested the media to not cover its hunger strike today, as those protesting in Marina are the real heroes.

"Let us not divert the attention. So, we request you not to cover our fast," he said in a statement.

"The day-long fast is aimed at showing our solidarity with the students, who are protesting", said vice-president
of the association Ponvannan.

We have invited all other film associations and want to lend support to the issue as a united front, he added.

All theatres in Chennai city will remain closed on January 20 from 9 am to 6 pm. Needless to say that Chennai is the main revenue generator for Kollywood films and this move will cripple the industry.

This move comes after it was declared that film shoots and film promotional events were to be cancelled until stability is restored in the state.
