CM says all hurdles cleared for Jallikattu, thanks PM

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam today thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support to jallikattu, an emotive issue which triggered mass protests across the state.

Thanking Modi for being instrumental in getting the clearances of various Ministries and that of the President for the Ordinance within a day, Panneerselvam also thanked the lakhs of students and youths, who had been staging protest demonstrations peacefully at Marina and at various parts of the State.

Panneerselvam said he himself would inaugrate the Jallikattu at Alanganallur, the nerve centre of the rural sport, at 1000 hrs tomorrow morning, which the Ministers would inaugurate it at 1100 hrs in their districts where Jallikattu would be held.

The Chief Minister said a Bill seeking to replace the Ordinance would be introduced in the ensuing session of the State Assembly beginning on Monday and it would be passed.

"On behalf of the government and people of Tamil Nadu, I thank you for all your support and assistance in enabling jallikattu to be held in Tamil Nadu once again during the Pongal season, upholding the culture and tradition of the people of Tamil Nadu," he wrote to Modi in a letter.
