Over 5000 stage overnight protest at Marina for Jallikattu

Around 5,000 people, mostly students and techies, were on an overnight protest along the Marina beach in Chennai demanding permission to host the banned bull-taming festival Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu.

By holding mobile torch lights, they also demanded a ban on animal rights organisation People for Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA.

Strangers to each other, the people who received WhatsApp messages on various groups, arrived since morning at the beach. People from different walks of life - students, office goers and house wives- they are bound only by their solidarity on conducting the sport.

Besides WhatsApp messages, various members of online Facebook Pages such as Chennai Pasanga, Chennai Memes and others have also been campaigning for Jallikattu and encouraging people to go out to the streets.

Despite police disconnecting the power supply at Marina Beach, the protestors continued their protest with the help of their mobile phone lights in the night.

Police had a tough time managing the massive crowd of over 5000 people who had gathered in response to social media posters and invited to support the cause of Jallikattu.
