Sasikala, OPS attend Tamil cinema's MGR centenary event

Numerous events have been planned by the film fraternity to mark MGR's centenary birth anniversary and its inaugural function in Chennai on Tuesday night saw the participation of chief minister O Panneerselvam and AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala.

MGR’s centenary birth anniversary fell on January 17 and to mark the occasion many events have been planned by the film associations.

“It’s not just a day to remember. We will celebrate throughout the year and we have planned events that will take place at regular intervals.

To begin with, a grand inaugural ceremony was held on Tuesday (evening) at Abirami cinemas where MGR’s hit classic Ayirathil Oruvan was screened,” filmmaker RK Selvamani, who is taking care of the celebrations, said.

Sasikala inaugurated the year-long celebrations organised by the Tamil film industry. To start with, MGR-Jayalalithaa starrer Ayirathil Oruvan was screened at Abirami theatre.

Earlier, Sasikala visited the residence of MGR at Ramavaram Gardens and hoisted the party flag and unveiled the new statue of the late leader.
