TN BJP gets shot in the arm, as former ministe & mayor join party

When BJP national presidenet Amit Shah said strengthening the BJP organisation in Tamil Nadu is his prime focus, many laughed it off considering the national party's very limited presence in the state.

However, slowly and quietly Shah is ensuring the state BJP comes across as a serious player. On Saturday, former Tamil Nadu Minister Nainar Nagendran and other AIADMM leaders joined the BJP in the presence of party chief Amit Shah.

Nagendran belongs to powerful Thevar community in Tamil Nadu and has represented Tirunelveli constituency in the state assembly twice.

Besides, former Mayor of Vellore B Karthiyayini and former AIADMK MLA Sreenivasan have also joined the BJP. Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, BJP national general secretary Muralidar Rao and BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan were present when these people joined BJP.

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said, "We are happy with them joining the party. We are sure the party is going to benefit in the coming days with their political experience."

It is expected that Nagendran will be given an important post in the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party and also a seat to contest in the Lok Sabha elections.
